RICHMOND, Va.—September 27, 2023 — The Owens & Minor Foundation today shared its achievements over the past year in delivering on its efforts to help build healthier communities.
“By continuing to forge new partnerships and creating new opportunities to make meaningful contributions to the communities we serve, we are continuously advancing Owens & Minor’s mission and legacy of service,” said Faith Cristol, President, The Owens & Minor Foundation. “We look forward to continuing our strategic focus on supporting causes that move us closer to our goal of building healthier communities.”
The Owens & Minor Foundation focuses primarily on the environment, healthcare, and diversity, equity and inclusion, in alignment with Owens & Minor’s Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) framework. In addition to program support, an important element of The Owens & Minor Foundation’s philanthropic efforts is providing Owens & Minor teammates with opportunities to engage and give back within their communities.
Key highlights of recent Owens & Minor Foundation efforts from the past year include:
- Supporting healthy waterways for a healthier environment: Contributions to organizations across the country that work to increase access, education and conservation for the nation’s waterways, including: Chattahoochee Riverkeepers, Chesapeake Bay Foundation, The Conservation Foundation, Friends of Great Salt Lake, the James River Association (JRA), LA Waterkeepers, and Save the Sound. Owens & Minor teammates also partnered with the JRA, Richmond Public Library, and the Richmond Department of Public Utilities/RVAH2O to plant trees to mitigate stormwater runoff in Richmond.
- Improving the health and well-being of families: Alongside flagship charity partner Ronald McDonald House Charities (RMHC), Owens & Minor teammates have supported more than 1,800 RMHC families by volunteering over 1,000 hours of their time, cooking thousands of nutritious meals and packing hundreds of essential medical supplies and snack kits.
- Helping communities through disaster recovery: Supporting the evolving needs of Maui residents affected by the wildfires with a contribution to the Hawaii Community Foundation’s Maui Strong Fund, which is helping to provide the community with shelter, food, financial assistance and other on-the-ground services.
- Advancing health for athletes of all abilities: As sponsors of the Special Olympics Summer Games in Georgia (May 2023) and Virginia (June 2023), Owens & Minor teammates facilitated 60+ free health screenings for athletes, including comprehensive eye exams. In Wisconsin, teammates helped raise funds for local Special Olympics athletes.
